That time of year is fast approaching (or is it already here?!?!?) when our thoughts start turning towards that most joyous time of year – Christmas.  To say our Family adores Xmas would truly be an understatement.  For Aussies – who are generally more understated and laid back than our northern hemispheres friends – we go all out.  Lots and lots of decorations, tacky versions of wonderful Christmas carols playing and miles of traditional hot xmas food on what can be a blisteringly hot day.  So when I was asked to make a xmas quilt for Ballarat Patchwork (my wonderful place of employment) I answered with a resounding ‘YES’!

This pattern (designed by Emma Jansen) is a simple, quick to make design that allows the fabrics full place in the spotlight. It is based around 5″ charm squares and so is very versatile as well for any fabrics purchasable in this way.
We have used a selection of the gorgeous and sweet Cherry Christmas range by Aneela Hoey for Moda Fabrics

Because the quilt is so quick and easy to put together there is lots of fun to be had in trying to work out the best colour and design placement for the different fabrics.

Not too bad (even if I do say so myself!) – not too many colour or design neighbours of the same type!
Wonderfully, this range comes with solids that are just perfect in this quilt as a frame for the centre pieced area and as a place for the eye to rest before moving onto the border.
You can purchase the pattern, the 5″ charm squares and yardage from Ballarat Patchwork to make your own Cherry Christmas Squares quilt.  You know you can fit in another project before Xmas!!!

Until next time, happy quilting, knitting, sewing, crafting ….
